El Chismoso works with advertisers and commercial partners to keep the site running and continue covering the news and community that matter to us. But our journalistic credibility depends on you always being able to tell the difference between editorial content and sponsored content. Here's how it works.
FTC compliance
Legal note: The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires digital media outlets to clearly disclose any commercial relationship when a third party has paid for content to be published. El Chismoso is in full compliance with these rules. Every sponsored publication is visibly labeled before the reader begins reading.
How to identify sponsored content
Every article, guide, social media post, or any other content that has been paid for by an advertiser carries the following label, displayed prominently at the top of the content:
This label appears in a size and position that cannot be missed. If an article does not carry this label, it is editorial content produced independently by the El Chismoso team.
Types of advertising on El Chismoso
- Sponsored content / sponsored articles: Articles written in collaboration with, or about, an advertiser — always clearly labeled.
- Native ads: Advertising that follows the visual format of the site, always identified as "Ad" or "Sponsored."
- Display banners: Traditional graphic advertising on the site.
Editorial independence
Editorial content
Produced entirely independently by the El Chismoso team. No advertiser influences, reviews, or approves editorial content before publication. Reviews, investigations, and news coverage are conducted without commercial consideration.
Sponsored content
Produced in collaboration with an advertiser, or directly by them. Always clearly labeled. The advertiser has input into the message. This content does not represent El Chismoso's editorial position.
Our advertisers have no influence over the news, reviews, or any other editorial content we publish. The fact that a business advertises with El Chismoso does not mean it receives more favorable editorial coverage, nor that it is protected from critical coverage.
What we will never do
- Publish sponsored content without labeling it.
- Change a review or editorial article at an advertiser's request.
- Offer guaranteed positive editorial coverage in exchange for money.
- Share your personal information with advertisers.
